Worth the cash?
Yes without a doubt. It can be under the cost of putting a good 450 heli in the air and i think the resell price is going to be fine in case i get tired of. No remorse on the cost per smile for me personally.
Insufficient range on wifi?
I have yet to have the Wireless cut down on me, therefore it looks much better than advertised so far.
Is the camera sluggish?
On occasion yes. Sometimes it is quick and smooth and sometimes it stutters. Not sufficient for FPV, add your own camera system for that. However the video flow is enjoyable and that is precisely what this bird is focused on
Better to fly without camera but looking at it?
Yes I don't know whether it is me and my personal heli flying habits, but I'm typically watching the
AR Drone itself, looking at the screen only if I remember it has video on it
Better with a 2.4GHz system?
Could well be awesome to offer the choice to fly with a 2.4 transmitter. Still can feel odd controlling by tilting the iPad.
Decent in wind flow?
Better than I expected at first. It's kind of uneven but appears to hold up well overall
Better at hanging than moving around?
Better at hovering where we have a clear floor texture. See those promotional videos having a extremely paterned floor? I suppose that is to get the best holding result on the down facing camera. It isn't really as good on lawn, shifting within around a foot approximately. Forward flight is apparently real effortless, far better at both than I expected.
Vulnerable?
Well yes and no. It'll break if you fly right into a wall. It is not that tough but it is more robust feeling as compared to I feared it may be. I think it is going to hold up a lot better than your ordinary RTF smaller heli. Let's wait and watch how it stands up.
